The OG Women of Islam

When people tell you that women need to do everything that a man does to get accepted in society, they are saying it out of ignorance or infamy. When you switch on your television, browse your internet or check your social media accounts and see that women are doing everything that a man can and the ideology that we women are no less than a man, then that’s definitely an absolute scam. Your celebrities, big brands and product commercials lie to you when they make you feel that you are not worth and it’s time to change and be like others to be recognized in society.

Constant brainwashing and lack of knowledge in them show that women are very low on the pedestal and need to do everything a man does in order to attain respect and appreciation in today’s world. Do we need to compete with men or other women to show how valuable we are as individuals?

Women today want to achieve everything that a man does often forgetting that we are designed to do things much more important than a man. Allah s.w.t has given us the privilege to give birth, raise children, look after the family, break generational patterns and provide a positive environment to people around us. Women have the knowledge and skills to gain education, work for the family if they want, confidence to pursue their passion and dreams, compassion and sensitivity to support their spouse and provide unconditional love to their children. Women are a perfect example of a multitasking dynamic, an epitome of strength and grace and a powerful shield of protection and love to the family. Women are not weak at all and so they do not need to prove their strength by constantly competing with men. Women are born as natural caregivers and strong individuals with more responsibility than men- the responsibility to raise the next generation.

Women today want to do things that a man does and they want to be like men today in every aspect; sadly we fail to understand that each gender has an exceptional role to play and both roles are unique and beautiful in their own sense. A constant wish of being like someone could make us lose our original exquisiteness and ultimate purpose for what we are and why we are here.

We as women feel constantly judged, misinterpreted, devalued and pressured to look a certain way, to do what others can, to make more money than a man, to dress up like a man and to do things that can show that we are at par with men today. In competing with men, we often ignore the fact about what is our status our Almighty has given us in Islam. People may put us down and make us feel less, however, Allah has asked men to treat women with the utmost care, respect and dignity by elevating the status of women as a mother, a wife and a daughter. Allah has instructed men to be the guardians of women and take care of the women in their households and fulfill all responsibilities towards them.

A married woman is called ‘Rabbatul Bait’ which means ‘Queen of the house’. Women are the backbone of their families if not the head of the family and they should be treated with affection and gentleness. Unfortunately, what we see today is completely the opposite. Women today are unaware of their status and spend most of their time proving to the world that they too are capable like men.

The true definition of companionship and marriage is when two imperfect souls come together to complete their half-deen. We, women, have a lot of potential to create an impact and influence people around us by being headstrong, efficient, reliable, loyal and secure. We need to stop getting influenced by the youth icons of today and choose our role models wisely as our Quran has rightly talked about.
