Life is short, uncertain and unpredictable. We need to make a choice; do we want to survive or do we want to live? People often get lost in the bewilderment of constant slogging, providing and saving the rest. There is no true happiness or purpose behind it. We certainly know the destination, but we do not know how the journey should be in order to reach there. Man lives in this invariable dilemma and ultimately dies like many other billions.
We as women often have ambitions in life, some great big ones like pursuing a degree, getting a good job or finding a loving spouse. Are we just confined in these ambitions? What next? Men and women should have a definite purpose in life, a purpose as little as bringing a smile on someone’s face. Ambitions should be high enough; whose rewards do not disappear even after a person dies. Like influencing someone to do something that is an act of virtue, passing on your knowledge to others, helping people in a way that could benefit them in the long run (like buying them some books or even sponsoring their education if you are indeed blessed). Are we influencing others in a way that they start experiencing inner peace and contentment for the rest of their lives?
The best way to bring a reformation is to change ourselves.
- Have an ambition. Either to help an organization that is working for orphan children or understanding the Quran with its meaning or influencing people to pray regularly. Have a realistic goal that benefits you as well as others around you.
- Have clarity in what you do. Also how do you want to do it?
- A virtuous deed done is an act of worship even if it’s a small amount you give in charity or asking your neighbors about their wellbeing.
- Have a good niyat (intention) when you do a virtuous act. Do not have any expectations. Reward is surely from Allah.
We should have an ultimate purpose in life, i.e. to please the Almighty. This is the eventual aspiration of every person’s life. To achieve that purpose, have smaller ambitions that could act as a ladder to heighten your status as a good practicing Muslim in this life and also the hereafter. These small ambitions could only lead us to the main goal of our lives.
Ambition to inspire (and not force) people to pray, donate, take care of their family, be kind to everyone and work hard (keeping faith in Allah); ambition to not follow the herd but stand out from the rest; ambition to create awareness about the value of honesty, halal earnings, justice and righteousness; ambition to inculcate acts of morality in our children and ambition to follow the final guide of the supreme being.
